About ten years ago, two of my passions came into my life – my daughter was born and then, a few months later when I just needed to be around adults and away from all things Elmo, I took my first quilt class. Over the years, my two passions have fought a battle for my attention, time and energy. When Amelia was learning to walk, the iron, pins, rotary cutter, etc. were kept up high and only came out of hiding when nap or bed time finally came around.
When Amelia started school, I embraced all the free time I had and took one quilt class after another, I watched every episode of Simply Quilts and embodied Eleanor Burns by tossing my fabric scraps all over the floor.
Then, three and a half years ago, my passion for quilting became my career when we bought Prairie Shop Quilts and, to be honest, my daughter (and the rest of my family) took a back seat while I worked day and night to make the shop successful. Over the past few months, it has become evident to me that no matter how organized I am or how little sleep I require it is becoming more difficult to be a good mom and a good business owner.
Now, don’t get me wrong, both of my passions are very successful. Amelia is a bright, well mannered, wonderful child and the shop is not only surviving in these trying economic conditions but sales are actually up and have been so each year since we purchased it.
However, with every year, my two passions have grown and evolved and instead of requiring less of my time, they both require more of it. I have said this since the first day I considered buying the shop…”everything was perfect about my becoming the owner of PSQ except the timing.” I already had a young daughter and a husband who traveled. Now, three years later, Amelia is so busy we literally have three calendars to keep it all straight, Patrick is traveling at least two weeks a month and I am three years older!
Long story short (yeah right) over the past few months, I have taken a long hard look at my priorities and I have decided it’s time for me to direct my attention, time and energy back on my family. As a result, I have decided to put Prairie Shop Quilts up for sale. This was certainly not an easy decision but I am confident it is the right one.
So…Do you want to buy a quilt shop J? Seriously, it has been a great experience and at a different stage in my life, I could certainly have seen myself owning the shop for a long, long time. If you are interested in purchasing the shop, just give me a call or send me an email. Again, I would like to reiterate, if for no other reason than the fact that I am extremely proud that we have been able to weather the economic storm and still increase sales, the shop is NOT in financial difficulty and my decision is strictly a personal one.
In the meantime, until a new owner comes along, all will be business as usual at PSQ. We will continue to hold classes, bring in fabric, patterns and books, our hours and offerings will remain the same and yes, the What’s New At PSQ emails will still hit your inbox every week (the email Gods willing!). I love PSQ and want to see it continue to succeed and flourish. The shop itself has been around for many years and I want to see it around for many more years. Thank you so much to our loyal and wonderful customers who have made the shop what it is and thank you for understanding why I have made the decision to sell. |
